HIPAA certification
HIPAA certification, while important, is not conducted or approved by the US Department of Health and Human Services. HIPAA certification is primarily training to broaden one’s awareness of the policies laid out in HIPAA regulation. Despite the lack of a legal mandate for a person or practice to obtain certification, many employers require that their employees receive such certification to ensure that ignorance of the law does not result in a HIPAA violation. There are various levels of certification offered from a variety of different HIPAA training companies. The employer often decides at which company and at what level an employee received HIPAA certification. A certificate is often awarded upon completion of the HIPAA training. Occasionally, a student is required to take a test to prove proficiency in the subject matter covered. Again, this does very from service to service depending on the needs of the employer.
