Health care compliance

Health care compliance for healthcare provider

Health care compliance is the extent to which a patient follows instruction given to them by their healthcare provider. Patients are able to comply with these instructions with various levels of accuracy. For instance, a patient may remember to pick up her prescription from a pharmacy, but forget to take the medication twice a day.

These individuals could often benefit from a third party having access to protected health information, such a prescription and related instructions, to ensure that the patient is receiving the best medical care possible. Even in a situation like this, HIPAA is in place to provide the maximum amount of protection for the patient and their records.

Even if the third party is close to the patient in question, authorization is needed to allow a third party to receive access for such care. This comes by way or a document drafted by the healthcare provider detailing how certain documents can be released to the desired party and for what purpose.

In conclusion:

  • Patients follow instruction of their healthcare providers with various degrees of accuracy.

  • When evaluating compliance, phi can be very helpful.

  • In order for the phi to reach third parties, authorization must be given.
